FRCR 2B prep, compared - how to choose
Last updated: 21 June 2026
There is no single best FRCR 2B prep. The right choice depends on what you actually need: more cases to drill, live teaching, or rehearsal of the spoken viva answer. This page compares the main options - subscription case banks, live courses, one-off viva courses and free resources - so you can choose by need, not by marketing.
Prices are as of June 2026, taken from each provider's own site (ex-VAT where shown) - always check the current price before you buy. We are not affiliated with any of them, and we have left out self-reported pass-rate claims, because they cannot be independently verified.
The types of FRCR 2B prep
FRCR 2B prep falls into a few types. Most candidates use more than one.
- Subscription case banks and platforms - large on-demand libraries of cases to drill (for example Revise Radiology, FRCR Longs).
- Live cohort courses - live teaching over cases across a season (for example Radiology Masters' Power Course, led by Dr John Curtis).
- One-off viva and rapid-reporting courses - fixed-date, one to two day live courses (for example the King's FRCR 2B course).
- Free case practice and reference - free image practice and guidance (for example Radiopaedia, Radiology Cafe).
- Spoken-viva rehearsal scripted to the mark scheme - rehearse the spoken answer, scored the way the RCR marks (Tungsten People).

How to choose
- Want a large bank of cases to drill recognition and reporting? A subscription bank (Revise Radiology, FRCR Longs) or the free sets on Radiopaedia.
- Want live teaching over cases in a cohort? A live course such as Radiology Masters, or a one-off course like King's.
- Want to rehearse the spoken viva answer, the way it is marked, unlimited and on your own schedule? That is the gap Tungsten People fills.
- On a tight budget? Start with the free practice on Radiopaedia and Radiology Cafe for cases, then add focused spoken-viva rehearsal when you want it.
Where Tungsten People fits
Tungsten People is the newest and most focused option here. It does one thing: it trains the spoken viva answer, scripted around the RCR's five scoring domains, with unlimited on-demand rehearsal in any timezone, billed monthly, cancel anytime.
The big platforms have far more cases and longer track records, and a free library like Radiopaedia is excellent for image practice. If what is holding you back is not having said the answer out loud enough times - in the shape the viva rewards - that is what we built. Many candidates pair it with a case bank: cases to recognise, plus rehearsal of what to say next.
FRCR 2B prep: quick answers
- Is Revise Radiology worth it?
- Revise Radiology is one of the largest FRCR 2B platforms: a big on-demand case bank for reporting and viva, plus scheduled live sessions and study groups. As of June 2026, its viva-only (2B Orals) plans start at £397 and its reporting-plus-viva (2B Combined) plans start at £697 (ex-VAT, from their site). It suits candidates who want case volume and live teaching. If you mainly want to rehearse the spoken viva answer on your own schedule, a focused on-demand tool may fit better.
- What is the cheapest FRCR 2B prep?
- The cheapest options are free: Radiopaedia and Radiology Cafe both offer free case practice and reference (not spoken-viva coaching). Among paid options, self-marking case banks start in the low tens of pounds per quarter. Tungsten People starts at £89 per month, billed monthly, cancel anytime; the spoken mock viva is on the Premium plan at £139 per month, opening soon.
- Do I need a course or a question bank?
- They train different things. A question bank drills recognition - naming the finding. A course or a viva tool trains what you say next - the next step, management and communication - which is what the viva scores. Most candidates need both.
- Can I prepare without UK-timezone live sessions?
- Yes. On-demand platforms and case banks work any time, in any timezone. Only the live cohort courses and scheduled study sessions are tied to UK hours.
Rehearse the answer that scores.
Whatever else you use for cases, the viva marks what you say out loud. Tungsten People scripts every diagnosis into the same five-step spoken answer and lets you rehearse it unlimited, on your own schedule, in any timezone - monthly, cancel anytime.
